Scalprum was an obscure Turkish death metal band that released only one demo called Inner God in 1995 before splitting up shortly afterwards. The contenders in that country's early death metal scene are rather hit and miss, so let's hope this is good.
The production is pretty muddy, but I've heard worse. The musicianship is decent, but I can't help but feel that their performance is haphazard. The drums will randomly switch between rapid blast beats and mid-paced rhythms without any warning or foresight. There doesn't seem to be any real reason why he changes pace so much, he just feels like doing it. I can hear the bass rather well, but their performance feels sloppy and poorly thought-out. It feels like he's just going through the motions.
The vocals of a deep, echoing growl that is utterly incomprehensible. He also performs screams that are equally incomprehensible. The guitars are exactly the same as all the other instruments. They just play whatever they feel like. One second they'll play some blazing fast tremolo riffs, and the next they're playing mid-paced riffs. I have a feeling they never bothered to plan any of this. I think they just got into the recording room and decided to play whatever they felt like. No songwriting or rehearsal necessary.
Overall, this demo is extremely haphazard and poorly thought-out. It's still nowhere near as bad as some other death metal demos I've listened to in the past.
