For a minute there, I read the band's name as Asperger. Anyway, Aspergar is a black metal band from Mexico that formed in 2007 and have so far released only one full-length called Devastation Of The Superior. Are they worthy enough to call themselves superior? Let's find out.
The black metal these guys play leans more on the thrash metal side. This is especially obvious in the riffs, as they play a lot of fast chugging rhythms. The drums utilize a lot of rapid double bass. Sure, it sounds like a typewriter, but their performance is still good nonetheless. They also perform lots of simple blast beats that borrow heavily from thrash metal.
The vocals consist of your standard black metal rasp. It's not very original, but it still sounds good. It's obvious that they put the greatest amount of attention into the guitars. As I said before, they play a lot of thrash metal riffs, all of which is perfectly displayed on the song “Animal”. They play lots of fast riffs, but they also play plenty of mid-paced riffs that have a certain level of infectiousness to them. It's like the 80s never ended.
However, while their musicianship is great, I can't help but feel that their music gets repetitive after a while. Sure, the riffs are great, but it's nothing I haven't heard before. I also can't help but feel that they recycle riffs on occasion. The album's long length certainly doesn't help matters. In conclusion, while their performance is admirable, the repetitive music kills the mood for me.
